Meta Tags - Keywords

Thu 24th Jan

if you have had or are having a web site designed for you there is a good chance that you have been asked to provide keywords and a description. What on earth does that mean?

They are both relevant to search engines, when a search engine is going to list your website it will look for these meta tags for information on where to list you.

If somebody types in records in a search engine then that will then search it's own database of web sites and match up with people that have records listed in their keywords and to a certain extent the description.

here is an example of what the code looks like:
<meta name="keywords" content="important keyword, next important, more, and so on">

You might say: 'I could list loads of keywords and get lots of search results', but you'd be wrong the more keywords or phrases there are the more watered down each one is, about 15 keywords is a good limit to set.
